Holiday greetings from incoming President Carolyn Meyers

December 7, 2010

Dear Jackson State University Family:

Happy holidays!  Please know that I am extremely grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to serve you as your President starting in January 2011.  During this holiday season I am especially thankful for all that you have given to Jackson State University.  You have brought JSU thus far and with your support, help and continued hard work, there is no doubt in my mind that Jackson State University will reach new heights.

I look forward to getting to know each of you, to learning the campus culture, and to working with you in the years to come.  I truly believe that when talented and committed individuals such as you get on the same page, so to speak, anything is possible.  In these dire economic times, it is important that we take the time to assess where we are and then move forward with institutional deliberation, determination, and intentionality based on the best ideas, the most thorough plans and decisive implementation.

Enjoy this holiday season and remember Jackson State University in your prayers and thoughts.  Be safe and joyous, and I’ll see you in the New Year.

    Dr. Meyers:

I am extremely satisfied with your being selected as JSU’s next president! My reasoning might be a little selfish, however. From my vantage point, it will be quite a learning experience to watch you, as JSU’s first female president, perform your duties. Your job carries with it such awesome responsibilty and power at JSU and within this system of higher education in Mississippi. Thus, your experience will be a source of education for many of us women who are aspiring leaders here on campus and across the state. I certainly wish you success, because success for you means success for JSU. If there is anything I can do to assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to call upon me. It would be an honor.

    Sincerely,
    M. Yvette Turner, Ph.D.

  6. Keydron Guinn, Ph.D. says:

I continue to stay abreast of the goings-on at my alma-mater, Jackson State University. It was truly a great day to read about another historical milestone at JSU—the selection of its first female president. Amazement is often the word that comes to mind when I see the visual progress of the campus, read of the development of new schools/programs, as well as published rankings that reveal an upward trajectory. All of these serve to support the definition of a premiere institution. I am extremely excited about Dr. Meyers’ appointment and the work that that will be done to continue moving JSU forward. With the help of the thousands of alums across the country, there is no doubt that challenges will be met head-on with an end result of victory!

Have a safe and happy holiday season. God bless.

JSU, “Thee I love, my dear old College home.”
